So well, blogadda prompted me to write about my role model yet again. I had dedicated two posts previously on my biggest role model, my mum, here as Happy Birthday Ma! and here as Ma and her bag of tricks – yet again! So this time I choose to write about my other set of role models…yes you read that right – role ‘models.’ That’s quite possible, isn’t it? To have more than a few role models. The perfect and the top most on my list will always be my Ma, followed closely by my bunch of close girl friends. They say a woman is a woman’s worst enemy. I choose both, to agree and disagree on this statement based on various experiences I have had with my gender pool. I have had my share of disappointments to exemplify this statement. But when it comes to my girlies….I prefer to disagree on this statement.
There’s not one perfect one among the whole lot…well none of us are anyway! Thus I prefer not to glorify any one of them but rather highlight random qualities of each of them that I admire and at times try to inculcate in myself to enrich my persona. For once, I never go by word of mouth about any of these women that I have befriended, no matter what people think or say about them. It is how they have made me feel and what I like about them that has made them tick in my life. These ladies have colored various stages of my life with their thoughts, counsel, support, actions and not to speak of the constant pump of morale boost that I receive from them when most required.
There are things we disagree on. But I tend to focus on things that I agree with them on and blur out the non-agreeable ones. There have been habits, thought processes, perspectives and lifestyle changes that I have consciously and at times unconsciously adapted from these girls. Whether it is that 3am friend that my panic call goes to or the one living across the globe, whom I haven’t met in years but am still connected to regularly, thanks to the advent of internet and social media. Each of them has been a role model to me in their own small way without their knowledge.
It is their faults that make me realize what I do not want to be and it is their virtues that help me decide what I like to be. Knowing their perspectives while discovering my own have been precious milestones that has helped me reach where I am today. A person that I love being.

Felt good to read this. It is a must to have girl friends and it is important to not lose them coz a man can never understand a woman the way a girl understands her and makes her a girl again 🙂
Nice post – vinodini
Thanks Afshan. Yeah can't imagine my life without my girl friends! They are irreplaceable 🙂
Vinodini, your post is very relevant I enjoyed reading it.
Vinodini, I have nominated your name for the Liebster Award. Congratulations !! For the rules etc kindly refer to my blog ,dated 25/06/14.
Thank you Usha ma'am. It is an honor to be nominated by you.
Naaice 🙂 :).. Friends play such a great role in our lives, they create us, make us hate them to the core and also respect them along the process.. What would we be without them? Nice read Vinodini 🙂
Thank you Vinay. You're right…the role our friends play in our lives can never be underestimated. They are precious 🙂
Friends! We share so much with them and learn a lot while teaching too…A very nice post…enjoyed reading it as usual 🙂
Thank you A Wrter. You always have such good things to say 🙂
The learning and teaching just happens in a friendship – while all you're doing is enjoying each others company.
Vinodini it's almost as if you're writing down my own thoughts for me. God, do I love this article! I almost wonder how much would I have learnt without my girlfriends being there around. That's how you learn no, from experiences, from people around you, from their experiences. They are such role models! Great philosophy there
Thank you Soumya. So we do have a lot in common besides living in the same city!
My girlies are a treasure trove of lessons, experiences and lovely fun memories 🙂
This was a wonderful take on the prompt of role models. Really there are so many people who influence and shape us in many different ways and bring out those sides of us about some of which we aren't even aware in the first place 🙂 I enjoyed reading this lovely writeup about your feelings toward your friends.
Hey, thanks Beloo! I'm glad this post resonated with you. Indeed there are so many people, experiences and factors that mold us into what we are, continuously, without our knowledge most of the times.
Compelling narrative. Makes me wanna fall in love again and again, the most beautiful feeling in the world:)
Vishal, I'm guessing that your comment was meant for the post I published after this post, 'Diamond Versus Diamanté,' which you typed on this post by mistake.
Or is it that you have fallen in love with one of my girlies of whom I've written here in this post?!…hehehe 😉
Thanks anyway!
Friends are one of the best role models. There is something or the other that we can learn from each one of our friends- especially girlies 😀 Loved this post 🙂
Yeah for sure! Most girls agree on that…don't we?!
Thanks for your sweet comment Reema!
better late than… u know… girlies sure do bring out the most in us knowingly or unknowingly, this post warms my heart 🙂 will be reading it many times over, thx for tagging me :))) our girls are definitely what makes us and will continue to do so…
