A cold sigh escaped her lips as she wistfully crossed off yet another date with a red felt pen from the calendar that stood on her bedside table.
It was the first day of December – thirty days more to the ‘so-called gorgeousness’…to fit into a dress of her dreams, three sizes smaller than hers for the upcoming New year gala.
Yet again, she reached out with renewed determination, for the bowl of cold and unappetizing bland salad that lay ignored on the coffee table for the good part of the evening, while she was busy judging the battle of her senses against her desires.
So saddening that we put ourselves through this, right? That need to fit into the perfect dress or the conventional idea of what looks gorgeous, is what makes so many of us unhappy. That aside, you have captured the notion of longing so beautifully!
Thank you Shailaja. The social norms of beauty do make us crunch under the pressure of confirming to those standards. I wish many of us just let ourselves be and enjoy what we are.
Nicely penned 🙂
Thanks Ankita 🙂
Nicely written and nice take on the prompt vinodini..

Thank you Cynthia. Glad you liked it.
So true and so unfair. You did get the essence of the longing and restrain we women go through! Nice post.
Thanks Inderpreet. Our longings never stop, do they? 😉
Lovely story and nice take on the prompt. Sometimes I to try to become thinner to fit into a particular dress but then I feel bad for restricting myself so much!
Thank you Reema. Yeah, I guess most of are guilty of doing this sometime or the other. We really should let go and enjoy life in a balanced way.
I agree with Shailaja. It's such a shame that a lot of women suffer so much to fit in the so-called norm of society in terms of beauty. Three sizes too small sounds way too much of a stretch. One size down perhaps doable…I feel for her, pity her and all us women who go through this. <3
Yes Elly, we are hard on ourselves most of the times trying to fit into other people's shoes. I wish we could just revel in the glory of what we are without torturing ourselves with unrealistically painful goals to achieve something that deprives us from living well. A bit of moderation goes a long way, I believe.
Beautifully written on lust and desire. Does it get better than that? Agree with above comments, how we try to fit in! Let's be ourselves.
Thanks Vishal. Great to see you here after long 🙂
Lovely story in only 5 sentences. Well done! ♥
Thanks Kathy. Welcome to my blog 🙂
Ahhh, the lure of a little black dress and the societal pressure to look 'perfect'. In whose eyes, really, I wonder?
Yeah Freya, I guess it was her own eyes and her reactions to how people perceived her physically.
Aah! Hope she achieves what she wants. But sad for her!
Shilpa, indeed sad and difficult to achieve.
I think many can relate to this battle of self and opinion. Well done.

I'm sure McGuffy. Most women and men as well would relate to it. Thank you.
My God, you have captured the theme so amazingly.
Thanks Jyotsna 🙂

Hey Sahiti! So good to see you back 🙂 Welcome and thank you <3
In the pursuit of size zero, most of us get 'sucked in'to this battle…the battle of the bulge! 😉
You're right Pri. This is a sad reality.
