When three is not a crowd. |
On some days, I chance upon a tiny snake, about a feet long, slithering away from the porch that leads to my office sinking towards the cool comfort of grass, disappearing as soon as it appears. On a few occasions, there is long grey one crossing the road, causing people passing by to sensationalize its appearance. We watch, we let it go by, slipping into the pit of stagnant rain water that looks more like a pond and we offer reverence to it if it appears to look more like a cobra.
On my way back when the sun is dipping orange-pink, I spot my favorite herd of Nilgais. nibbling on grass blades. I start clicking them in excitement every time I spot them at a stone throw distance, forgetting how camera-shy they are, till one of them sees me, scampers away, alarmed as though he saw a ghost and the rest of the herd follows fleeing for their life. Now, every evening I try mastering the art of clicking them without them realizing that I’m clicking them on the sly, by walking on without halting. But damn! They are so sensitive. The moment they find my eyes on them now, they start playing hide and seek, which is amusingly adorable yet frustrating when I’m unable to get that perfect click. I almost feel like paparazzi.

What the hell is she doing? |

Did she just click a picture of mine? |

Guys, run! We’re without makeup! |

Ah…safe now, from this distance. Gawd…is she ever going to give up on hounding us? |
But tell you what, as much as I love absorbing the nature and wildlife here, the peacocks screeching constantly in the background has got to me. Don’t know why, but I’ve started feeling like they do it to mock me, coz’ it looks like their cacophony goes up when I step closer. Till the time I come across a quiet one dancing in a solitary corner all fanned out in its vibrant blues, and I get mesmerized like a child at the wondrous sight yet again no matter how many times I get to see it.

A sight to behold. |
Hey Vinodini, what a beautiful post spreading breeze and energy:)
Thanks Vishal! Glad you enjoyed reading it 🙂
Wow looks like quite a place of work in the middle of nature…You know my office campus is quite green too and I occasionally have noticed snakes too there…
Naba, its both a boon and a bane to have so much greenery around. My office is at quite far a location, so that explains the wildlife around it. I hope you enjoy these little things around your workplace too….not sure if you are a wildlife enthusiast.
Ohh, it's so beautiful, Vinodini. And no doubt you are the paparazzi here. 🙂
Yes Vinitha, some perks of having an office away from civilisation. Hehehe….I agree on the paparazzi bit 😉
Love how you are aware and enjoy those moments … the butterfly just being there in front of you 8being on the phone) But still you notice…… Lovely:-) And haha – those make-up-less animals… Paparazzi you are:-) njoyed this read
Eli, I deliberately walk out of the air-conditionined office in the scorching heat to make my personal phone calls, just so that I get to catch these random glimpses of nature while I'm on phone. Makes my day.
You have to see how those make-up less animals flee when they see me with my cellphone, clicking them…I guess I am paparazzi, if you all insist 😉
It is practically like being next door to the zoo!
Better than a zoo Kathy. The best part is these beings are in their natural surroundings and not in captivity.
What beauty! I would love to work in such a surrounding! 🙂
Yes Aditi, it does have some good moments. But you would have second thoughts when you realize how far it is from civilisation 😉
You have kudzu in your first shot. Kudzu is the largest leaf on the fence in 3's. It is totally edible and has 60 medicinal purposes. Check online for the hundreds of thousands of recipes.
Hey, thanks for the info Charlotte! I'll look up on Kudzu. Never heard of it before but seems like a resourceful plant as per your description. Might try getting a sapling and planting it in a planter back home.
Wow! So beautiful and you are lucky to work near such a place. Mine is a concrete jungle :/
Tell me where is this? 🙂
Hi Parul, this is on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. A little away from the civilization but it has its own sweet moments 🙂
